About Me

So a little bit about me, Gemma Faithfull. I've always enjoyed baking, and have been inspired by people like Mary Berry and Mrs Beeton and a bit more up to date Lorraine Pascale. I was encouraged a lot with my baking from my Gran, she was very honest at times about what she thought of my cakes and if improvement was needed! When I was 17 I started working at Frome Valley Farm Shop where I spent some time in their kitchen, baking sponges and other sweet and savoury treats, Margaret who worked with me then was an inspiration her cakes were always perfect. I went home and practiced, I found I had a real passion for making christmas cakes.I love the smell when your baking them, the shine that the sweet sherry gives to the fruit, glazing them or icing them, even wrapping them knowing you have seen that cake through the whole process from start to finish.

I started to make them for friends and family as presents, then I decieded I would try selling them at Farmers markets and at Food festivals this went well. After completely taking over my Mother's kitchen and realising I didn't have enough room I began to think about my own kitchen. I gained a 2.1 in a Degree in Agri-food marketing with business studies from Harper Adams University. This helped me make the decision and gave me some drive to set up my own business. So I used my savings to buy a portakabin and convert it into a commercial kitchen with more space!

My friends and family have been very encouraging, this year will hopefully be my busiest yet. In may 2012 I entered the Kitchen Table Talent Awards in Country Living Magazine and won the best business to be category, with this business! Also coming runner up in the best baker category, this really gave me a boost when I found out the jugdes Emma Bridgewater, Kirsite Allsop and Emma Jones liked my cake and business. Something else to celebrate was winning a Great Taste Award, this was awarded to my Christmas cake with the half and half topping (see gallery and homepage) which I was extatic about. I have recently made Faithfull's Quality Baking my full time job.
